MING: Destiny

Paul Raccagni

" ... the person everyone is carved The name that is given to him. "
(Annick de Souzenelle - The symbolism of the human body)

In any social organization to the birth of an individual family, the father and mother choose a name for your child. This name is used by the whole community to identify it as belonging to the family and to distinguish it from other members of the family clan. In some traditions it is customary to match the name of the father than the son, under the title "son of" [1].
In China, in ancient times, there was the usual to another name to his son, real name or the name secret. The father took his son, and away from ears indiscreet, whispered his real name, a name whose only father and son knew. This custom to shelter his son from any spells operated by demons or sorcerers who, using the name, they could get hold of his spirit.

MING Name
Having a name (名 MING - Ricci 3513: name, title, description, name, reputation ..., celebrities, famous, distinguished, eminent) is the first condition to exist. If you assign a name to a thing or as Confucius says (KONGZI) we give the "right name", allow the existence, brought to light (Ming 明). I have a name, therefore I am. Losing the name, a "No Name" (无名 MING WU), was the condition in which an individual loses his dignity, reputation (名气 MING QI), facing the society. He was exiled by the people of the clan (JIA 家 - Ricci 523), rejected by the community (JIA REN 家人), it loses its powers of existence.

MING Light
The ideogram Ming (明 - Ricci 3515) is, in its present form, of two elements: the sun (日) and moon (月), the two celestial stars light and allow life on earth. The significance assumes the character is clarity, light, bright, clear, light ... but clearly distinct, manifest, evident. An individual is born when it says that "comes to light", so it is through the action of light, MING, the Fire element, that "adhering" [2] to the individual the "different", he does emerge from chaos. For us Latin is used in the formalities, give the title of "egregious" that derives from the Latin "ex Gregis - outside the flock" or "separate" from others. MING, then, distinguishes dall'Indifferenziato, allows the travel by the multitude to unity, unique.

MING Destiny
Another ideogram MING becomes part of our lives, giving us the purpose for which we are "brought to light" and give it a destiny. MING (命 - Ricci 3514) has the meaning: order, sort of, the decree of Heaven, education, mandate, mandate from heaven (TIAN MING 天命) Emperor. Etymologically consists LING (令), decree, order, and a mouth (KOU 口), lower left. An order issued by the highest authority, a mandate given to man to fulfill his destiny because it is "in gaining to its first nature (xing 性), cultivating their own qualities and natural dispositions "(C. Larre). The Gate of Destiny (Ming Men 命门 - between the second and third lumbar vertebrae) is the place where Heaven (yang) meets the Earth (Yin), where the essence (jing) and puffs (IQ) penetrate the field Lower vermilion (TIAN XIA DAN), the kidneys. The place where the personal life begins, where the fire of Ming Men can keep it until its natural end.

[1] For example, in Jewish or Arab culture, but also in Northern Europe, is used to name well, "son" or bar, a "young son". In Italy, many surnames express paternity (Di Giovanni, D'Agostino, ...) or non-paternity (of God, Casadei, ...)

[2] The 30th hexagram dell'YIJING is there, the Contractor. Formed by the overlap of the two LI Trigrams (Fire) takes the image of clarity, visibility, awareness and consistency ... but also see clearly, clairvoyance. Fire has no form but "paste" to make them luminous bodies. Fire stands to separate.
