The Four Heavenly Palaces

Georges Charles
translation by Paul Raccagni and Yves Kieffer

Since the sixth century BC surveyors (or geomancers) Chinese already make out the magnetic north from true north which was symbolized by the North Star, called TAI YI, as if to say "Big One", the Big Unit Immutable. Polaris is the central pivot around which turns the sky, little by little, the Chinese call the Great Bear 'constellation of seven stars of the Northern Ladle "and that, depending on the seasons, occupy different positions, different "Heavenly Palaces." These "Heavenly Palaces" are five in number. The Seven Stars of the Great Bear define, with their circumpolar movement, the "Central Building", a circular shape. This central location enables you to adjust and to locate the other four "Heavenly Palaces" or "Palace of the Equinoxes." In Chinese tradition the "Celestial Palace" is the Emperor (DI) or King (Wang), then regarded as the "Son of Heaven" or more accurately, as "a descendant of the Central Building Celeste." For several millennia, China, the Emperor is thus the "Son of the Center of Heaven" ... A perfect immutability symbolism is very similar to that in Japan where the Emperor is the "Son", thus the descendant of the "Rising Sun". In these two cases the Emperor, or King, the one "who keeps firmly between Heaven and Earth" thus becomes the mediator between Man and Heaven ... Located at the top of the pyramid of human energy "Central Building of the Sky "China, or the" Rising Sun ", Japan, follows him. He thus serves as the centerpiece and landmark in the Sky.

But this central immutable necessarily imply additional guidance. Upon receipt of his subjects, the Emperor stands facing south, then to express all its power and receive the most Yang energy of the sun at its zenith. Turn your back to the North is the top of the Yin, the material on which it rests. To his left, is part of honorific marking the growth of the Yang Spring equinox. To its right is the part that corresponds to the return of the patron Yin Autumn equinox. We therefore find the "Four Heavenly Palaces" situated on either side of the "Central Building of the Sky" ... These "palaces" are as seasons of the year. They are determined on the one hand, the orientation of the "tail" of the Great Bear, or the handle of the bushel, which is pointed towards the East question, we can find symbolism in the first bush, where the party takes the form of a magnetized spoon and the other is the palace of a particular constellation ...

Obviously you can look at the sky, find the North Star then the major constellations over the course of the seasons, to know how to best position them in space, but is usually more practical to use a compass correctly was invented in China, for this purpose. In this case, one who holds the position of the compass, so the central observer, is, symbolically, the "Central Building of the Sky" then the North Star (TAI YI) is the center and the summit. One who holds the compass pointed to some so has the role of the Emperor (WANG). The top of his skull, the point Bai Hui (PAE ROE) is the North Star around which seem to turn slowly, all the constellations by the Earth's rotation. Compass allows the viewer to navigate, so to find the four orientations and to choose which direction to look and act. Symbolically, the compass needle that has been portrayed as a spoon magnetized, is the Great Bear. In this case the tail of the spoon is turned opposite to the pole star and the observer indicates the South can then move to the second north - south

The skull is then the sky. The point between the eyebrows (YIN TANG or "Palace of Silence") is then towards the south and the central point of the occiput (YU ZHENG or "Jade Pillow") is placed to the north. We are therefore face to South and back north ... How do you explain in Chapter 42 of Laozi Daodejing "He leaned Yiang Yin and embraces him," or as another translation "takes on its back the darkness (Yin) and holds in her arms the light (Yang). In this case rests on the Black Tortoise (Grand Yin Water) and lets you take the flight to Phoenix Red (Great Yang Fire). The East, then the Green Dragon, Little Yang Wood, is found to the left while the West, the White Tiger, Little Yin Metal, can be found on the right.

The Black Turtle
The Black Tortoise is the strength, stability, security, on which we can support, rest with confidence. At the level body, the microcosm, is the pelvis, the sacrum, and coccyx ... as well as the kidneys. Chinese Nell'energetica this corresponds to structure (TI) ... on the rocks in nature, to bones and joints in the body. This structure influences the posture which in turn facilitates the rest, reflection (meditation) and the ability to listen ... so the hearing. To some extent there is also found the ancestral wisdom, tradition and what is in it is positive, a well-established, deep and stable. It is the knowing and doing. The Black Turtle is that which is fixed to the ground, so the foundation or roots, the stability of all buildings. This is apparently the Great Yin of Winter, the sleep of the night ... that generates the wake of the massive Yang Young ... of the Green Dragon. When we go to bed "cool head", facing north, the Black Tortoise is what supports the pelvis called the occiput ... "Jade Pillow" (YU ZHENG). And 'natural and therefore recommended that the head of the bed is against the wall or at least be back in a stable position. Once in China and across Asia, usually slept on a mat laid on the ground ... and the bedroom consisted of a simple partition. It is then used to replace the stone wall or the headboard of the bed, a pillow of stone (... sometimes jade), wood or, more often, in lacquered leather. This pillow symbolizes perfectly the famous Turtle Black on which rests the pillow of jade.

The Green Dragon The Green Dragon represents the strength of the awakening of Spring, the Young Yang, of the rising sun, the output from the darkness of winter and night ... of what is high, So what is reborn in the wake of the dynamics of renewal. A microcosm of the body is level then the muscles and tendons, in classical Chinese energy, what we call "form" (xing). The muscles and tendons allow movement and their connection to the visual sense. "Open your eyes" in the strict sense and figuratively, then wake up and be available and act is exactly the Green Dragon. Is the know-how. It 's everything that is related to growth, evolution and development. Its space is that of the rising sun, east orientation. When you're lying "in a cool head and feet warm, then along the North - South axis, the Green Dragon is located on the left. In China, the left represents the side of Young Yang, perception, intuition.

The Red Bird The Red Bird or Phoenix Red is the symbol of the sun at its zenith, the South and what has come to full maturity, the Great Yang. It is also the Spirit (Shen), produced by the heart that can be stolen them without coercion. This is the freedom to act, fame, say. This is therefore traditionally red bird in front and needs to be open space or at least free. In Microcosm body is the heart, circulation of fluids and heat, touch, touch, good relations.

The White Tiger The White Tiger is the symbol of the setting sun, the West, what is materialized, made, implemented, as defined, finished ... and effective. Young represents the Yin, or Yin Piccolo, the decline, the gradual return on itself, the calm and relaxation and tranquility that allows you to make sleep as repair. In the microcosm of the body, representing the lungs, the breath, energy (qi or ki in Japanese) life, the balance of respiration. The White Tiger "feels" and "affected" the movement of this energy and uses it to his advantage. E ', despite everything, very attached to the concrete and that a formal existence. E 'capable of making important decisions quickly and knows how to delegate his power to get better. E 'therefore an expert in "knowing how to do." We can count on the White Tiger to be protected. With regard to the North report - South is located on the right, west, westward, toward the setting sun. In China the right thus represents the Yin Young, materiality, the penalty, the decision logic.

Longevity of Animals - The Man of Heaven and Earth

In the culture Chinese, in particular the medical, no distinction is made between an individual's body and her spirit. So, live long and in full possession of their physical and mental faculties, is the purpose of Art Long Life ... in other words the art of living between Heaven and Earth, is in agreement with one or the other.

The "long life" has nothing in common with the life expectancy or age of biological Western medical thinking. The "Long Life" is an image of Heaven and Earth, as they appear in a timeless world that is part of the "noumenal", where it expresses only the "original nature". A world in which phenomena are subject to bias and to change, a world of permanence, you get infinite moment to moment, putting in the right space between Heaven and Earth. A man or a woman, with her feet firmly planted on the ground and his head hanging from the sky is the image of an individual who has reached the "Long Life".

This image, attributed to Mencius (Mengzi, IV century BC), describes the concept of long life: a man placed vertically, upright, with the upper limbs and rounded face up (the Sky ), the lower limbs, more square, facing down (the Earth). Ideally oriented in space, arms and legs are in harmony with respect to the central axis of the body, the top opens up (Sky), the lower level down (the Earth). On the median, represented by a horizontal line intersecting the vertical axis, the Man, the intermediate is related to the Heaven and Earth. These two sections, horizontal and vertical, taken together, form the cross, a symbol of change, transition state, in essence.

The graphic symbol, figure (2) represents the image of "Man in Space", "Man Structured" or "man-oriented." Returning the idea of \u200b\u200bstability, of righteousness, this symbol describes the search for an optimal balance between time (the circle, the cycles) and space (square, defined) in relation to the situation (here and now.) In other words, a living thing that shares the sky with creativity, through the perception of ideas and then thought, and with the Earth, the stability, the ability to occupy different positions in space where he works, so a "between Heaven and Man Earth. "

Figure (3) overlaps the symbol of Man Structured a circle, a triangle and a square make even more intuitive reports: Sky - Circle - Intellect; Men - Triangle - Emotions, Earth - Square - structure.

Figure (4), more detailed earlier, symbolizes the "Longevity (Shou) and identifies the practice of" Long Life ". The figure of Mencius you add some graphic details. On the top floor, head or "Palace of Light" (MING GONG), is associated with open arms to Heaven (Tian) welcoming the spiritual breath or Thin Breaths (SHEN QI). In the median, the Centre (ZHONG), always on a horizontal axis, we find a confined space, the MING TANG, or "Pavilion of Clarity." An intermediate place in the middle of the chest, point of collection and exchange between Heaven and Earth. In the lower floor, the legs placed in the center of the pelvic or "Palace of the Yellow Court and Destiny "(HUANG TING GONG MING MEN), are subject to the effect of gravity passing through the central axis. This is what is beyond the point of the coccyx and penetrates the Earth (DI). The central axis indicates the direction of energy flow and shows the way where you collect "Heavy Blows", rough and coarse elements that undergo the natural effect of gravity. These puffs are concentrated gradually from top to bottom, from outside to inside, from the periphery to the depth, in order to nourish the body shape. The energy moves toward the inside of the body, collects and concentrates the forces thin (blue) to those thick (land), with function of a filter that drains the essence (jing) in order to entrench the puffs (IQ) in the body (XING).
